Finally get to share the first part of our Green Walk with you! Remember when it started, at plant shop Wildernis in Amsterdam? Read about it here: Shop visit Wildernis Amsterdam.
Co-owner Mila took us on a Green Walk through some of her favorite Amsterdam neighbourhoods. It was such a beautiful day, and the walk was so calming and fun. Excellent company too! More of these, please. Seriously, I took so. many. photos, it’s ridiculous, but I’ll keep it down to two posts. Come walk with us:
It didn’t take long for us to find little green gems. Look at this Medinilla, I’d never think to put that out on a balcony (especially in our Dutch climate). It looks so good though…
We discovered that Amsterdam is a very green city. But this house really took the cake: how Urban Jungle can you get?
The side entrance wasn’t bad either!
Some areas even have their own little community gardens.
Mila has her own plant must-haves, like this perfectly imperfect succulent. You just tell from this photo alone that she’s a true plant lover.
In Amsterdam, people plant as much as they can, wherever they can.
The quintessential Amsterdam photo: flowers, bikes and canals.
Mila sharing another gem.
Amsterdam boasts lots of little courtyards. They’re sometimes locked (especially at night, as I found out in this post), but this one was open and so we went in…
Hello gorgeous Hosta.
And amazing tree! Ugh, I love courtyard gardens, don’t you?
More lush green along the way.
Fuchsias are a favorite, although it took a while for them to grow on me (pun not intended).
Black house with lots of green? Always yes to that. Love the little bird feeder, too.
Another gorgeous canal house with more green loveliness.
If there’s one thing Amsterdam does well, it’s plants on steps. They’re everywhere.
That, and beautiful old architecture. Le Sigh.
Oh, and gates.
Gates covered in green.
Bathtubs too ;)
Hope you enjoyed taking this walk with me, part two will be up next week. I’m trying to fit everything in (lots of work, moving home, redecorating and the usual business), still struggling with time but will be making it up big time starting January (what? That’s such a long way away! Um no, trust me ;) And also it will be totally worth it).
Meanwhile do let me know if you’re enjoying these posts and if you have any more green Amsterdam tips!
